IPO Cell: An Orientation, Training & Placement cell at IJC
Internship and Placement are two crucial aspects for the fresh graduates aspiring to be the next-gen media and communication professional. And to bring these activities under a single umbrella, the IJC has developed a dedicated unit named IPO Cell – Internship and Placement Orientation Cell. And since inception, the IPO Cell is discharging functions daunting tasks under the visionary leadership and mentorship of Dr. Debolina Dasgupta (In-charge, IPO Cell) along with exemplary help and supports from IJC Director (Dr. Hari Desai) and fellow faculty members in close co-ordination with media industry.
The cell has been working constantly towards providing students with an opportunity to do meaningful and lucrative work. And in order to equip the media and communication students with the right kind of industry exposure and connect, IPO Cell regularly organises seminars and career-oriented workshops, besides providing internship opportunities and conduction of IPO sessions.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU) organized and celebrated - Navratri Dandiya Ramzat 2k24 on the 5th of October 2024. The celebration was planned and executed by the Cultural Committee with the support of all the members of the SVGU family. The traditional occasion of Navratri began at 6pm on the college campus grounds and was successfully completed by midnight.
As a part of this cultural festival, the college organized Aarti Thali Competition where students from all institutes participated and won various prizes. The Aarti Thali Competition was held on 3rd October and the thali of the winners were used to offer aarti on the pooja ceremony on 5th.
Apart from an energy packed audience, students also were awarded for the following categories: Best Performance & Best Costume from each institute. Top 3 students were selected from each category from all the institutes.
The college also arranged an Instagram Post Competition wherein students had to upload a photo they clicked on the campus ground on the day of Navratri which was to be uploaded on or before 6th noon. Those photos which received maximum number of likes were awarded prizes. 1st prize was bagged by BCA student, 2nd prize by BBA student and 3rd prize by MBA.
Food stalls too were arranged to offer refreshments to everyone who needed an energy boost. But what made this occasion joyous and memorable was not just the competitions and food but also the energy expressed by the students while performing garba. Everywhere there was a rhythm, a rhythm, though different but united by the sound of garba.
On September 4, 2024 Institute of Journalism and Communication (IJC) organised Grand Finale: 'Creative Sangam' of the 3 clubs formed to nurture the creative minds of the aspiring students. The clubs named Clash Corner hosting debates and discussions on contemporary issues; Netraa for film and photography activities and CreAdz which conducts various events related to advertising.
Mr. Anand Yagnik, Advocate of Gujarat High Court, was the Chief Guest while Mrs. Jharna Pathak, Secretary of Ahmedabad Women's Action Group, was Guest of Honour to speak on the topic 'Crimes Against Women’ as conceived by the members of Clash Corner. Both the experts enlightened IJC students with their wisdom of words.
The interactive session was followed by the announcement of winners for the best brand story competition which was conducted the day before and some brand related games by CreAdz. At the end an Ad Film as well as a Short Film, by the Netra Club team, were screened for the IJCians.
On the 15 th of August 2024, SVGU commemorated India’s 78 th Independence Day at Chimanbhai Patel Institute Campus. This year also marks the 25 th Anniversary – Silver Jubilee - commemorating the Kargil Vijay Diwas which was remembered by everyone present for the event. The Chief Guest of the day was Shri. Siddharth Patel Sir who gave an enlightening speech on the youth of India and the advancement of the nation in the hands of the youth. The event began with a speech about Independent India and Kargil Vijay Diwas, followed by the National Song. Cadets then led the Shri. Siddharth Patel to the pole where he hoisted the Indian Flag. With a strong and patriotic salute, the Chief Guest, Directors, Faculty members, administrative staff and the students sang the Flag song. The closing of the event began with everyone singing the Indian National Anthem followed by the offering of sweets.
Freshers Party @ IJC
The most awaited fresher's party 2024 was organized by Institute of Jorunalism and Communication at Himalaya mall, Encore club on 2nd August, 2024. This annual event was organized to welcome the new batch of students into the college community, providing them an opportunity to showcase their talents, interact with seniors, and become a part of the vibrant college culture.
The starcast of the newly released gujarati film "Karkhanu" visited Institute of Journalism and communication on 30th july 2024 for the promotion of the film. Actors of the film, Mr Archan Trivedi, Mr Hardik Shastri, Mr Harshdeepsinh Jadeja, the writer as well as actor of the film Mr Parth Madhukrushna visited the institute.
On 27th, July 2024 Insti¬tute of Journalism and Com¬munication hosted a guest lecture titled “Union Budget 2024-25 from closer look”. The session was delivered by Rutam Vohra a distinguished Communication Professional and Former Business Correspondent. The session aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the Budget 2024, highlighting its key features, implications for various sectors, and the broader economic impact.
On the 20th of July 2024, the students at Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University celebrated Guru Purnima for their professors and admin staffs. The celebration began with Ganesh Vandana by students followed by Lamp lighting by the directors of various institutes. Students also arranged a small performance for entertainment. After the performance, the students had arranged a couple of games for the professors wherein they all participated and won prizes. What made the event special was the enthusiasm shown by the students, specially by the volunteers who coordinated and made it a success. The dedication by the students shows the bonds developed between the professors and the students. The celebration was concluded with the plantation of samplings, symbolically showing growth and nurture.

The celebration of International Yoga Day aims to bring about positive outcomes such as increased awareness and adoption of yoga, promotion of health and well-being, global unity, stress reduction, cultural exchange, and environmental consciousness. Institute of Journalism and Communication (IJC) conducted Workshop on Reel Making for the 12th graders on 6th May 2024. The session conducted with the aim of equip participants with essential skills to create captivating short videos for the Social Media Platforms. The session covered concept development, filming techniques, and basic editing skills.
Students at Institute of Journalism and Communication, SVGU visited the Akshar River Cruise at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad to attend a special coverage event Janvani Election 2024 organized by DD Newson 30th April, 2024. One of the key highlights of the “Janvani Election 2024” coverage was the interaction between political candidates and the students of IJC. This engagement provided a unique learning experience for the students and allowed them to actively participate in the democratic process.

The Institute of Journalism and Communication (IJC) under the aegis of Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU), formerly Chimanbhai Patel Institute (CPI) launched its Post-graduate (PG) Degree program in Master of Arts in Media and Communication - M.A.(M&C) and Doctoral (PhD) program in Media and Communication in the Year 2023. The IJC started the PG and PhD courses to meet the ever-growing demand of the various domains of the media and communication.
The programs are aimed at bridging the gap between the theory based academic exposure and industry oriented practical know-how to deliver the work from the day one, be it in areas of Print, Electronic and Digital Media. Moreover, the course curriculum is designed to create platform for experiential learning and having special emphasis and exposure towards Research, Social Media, Advertisement, Public Relations and Corporate Communication aspects.
The courses are perfectly aligned with the day-in and day-out needs and requirements of the professional world. And the IJC makes sure it delivers the best to its students through its dedicated labs - including TV Studio, Editing Room, Radio Studio and PCR - for Print, Digital and Electronic media. The IJC infrastructure includes well equipped TV studios and recording room and Editing Lab with the latest applications and software.
