Former IPS officer and Gandhian Anuradha Shankar inaugurated the Gandhi-Sardar Vichar Manch (GSVM) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU) on October 3rd, 2025, to promote the Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s philosophy of non-violence. The 1990 batch officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre unveiled the forum amid the august presence of Sanjay Tula (an engineer tuned Gandhian), Provost Dr. Subhash Brahmbhatt, Registrar Dr. Mayur Shah, all the directors, faculty members and students.
The GSVM has been established to encourage meaningful discussions on the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, connecting their timeless ideas with the challenges of today’s world.
The first women IPS officer to join force with 2 children, she was here to deliver a special session on Gandhini Ahimnsa Aaje (Gandhi’s Non-Violence in Present Time).
Opening the session, Sanjay Tuka emphasised on how Gandhiji’s principle of non-violence continues to be relevant in addressing modern conflicts and promoting peace. Moreover, he also reflected on the timeless wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and their role in taking India on the path of societal upliftment and success. He also shared his insights on the relevance of Gandhian principles in modern society. 
Anuradha, the recipient of President’s Police Medal for distinguished services, is a strong advocate of Gandhian thoughts.
“Ahimsa is not just the absence of violence, but a way of living rooted in truth, compassion, and moral courage,” she said. Further adding she explained how Gandhiji’s philosophy remains relevant in the 21st century, offering solutions to challenges such as social conflict, intolerance and injustice.
She encouraged students to adopt non-violence in their daily lives, not as a passive act, but as an active principle of strength and resilience. Her lecture deeply inspired the audience and left a strong impression on the importance of Gandhian values in modern society.
Taking about her Rurban initiative, she highlighted how this rural outreach program, which is comprised of taking students from different colleges going to various villages across the country and they live with them to understand the real-life challenges people face in their daily living. The program was incepted some 15 years back and attracting many students from various streams -- including engineering, science, commerce and arts among others – to be part of the program to learn and become better at facing challenges in life.
Anuradha Shankar and Sanjay Tula aptly emphasised how Gandhiji’s values of non-violence and truth remain powerful tools for peace and justice not only in India but across with world.

The event was attended by faculty, students, and staff members who actively engaged in the session. The lecture inspired students to reflect on values of truth, justice, and leadership in their personal and professional lives.
